Little Felt Bird Brooch

A weeks or a so ago a friend gave me and some a other crafty friends a little bag and asked us to make the contents into Little bird brooches to raise money and awareness for Ovarian Cancer. It was in fact World Ovarian Cancer awareness day on the 8th May so yesterday afternoon I spent some time making my little Birdie brooch. The brooches that we have been making are going to be donated to the charity Ovacome  and being a little birdie make it was right up my street.

The little bags that Lindy gave to us contained two die cut felt bird pieces a teal coloured felt wing, a seed bead and a brooch clasp and the brief was 'you can do whatever you want with it'. You can check out Lindy blog  here she makes the most amazing little bears as well as many over fabulous crafts and makes.

So I decided the first thing I would do was remove the wing and slightly change the shape of  the white felt bird. I then rounded off one end of the teal wing, making my bird look much more like a Summerhouse by the sea Birdie 'here'

This little felt bird really is tiny about 4cm from tail to beak, so it was a bit of a challenge trying to figure how to decorate it. I tried tiny buttons and also some seed beads to try and make a little flower on the birds wing, but I wasn't completely happy, so I had a bit of a rummage through the summerhouse craft supplies.

Where I found some iridescent crystals that I knew would be perfect for my little bird. I stuck them onto the wing using craft tweezers as they are so tiny and then I glued the wing onto the bird.

Then today I attached the clasp to the back with white thread.

.
and then stitched the two pieces together using invisible thread

and Ta-Dah my bird brooch was complete. I think the little crystals in the petrol blues pinks and greens really compliment the teal coloured wing, well I hope this do? What you think?

Here it is pinned to my dress, as you can see the crystals are very sparkly. I think it will look great pinned to a summer jacket.  I can't wait to see at Tuesday Craft club what everyone else has come up with for there bird brooches

Happy Crafting
