Lyme Disease Yarn Bombing

Hello..... Earlier in the year @living_with_lyme over on instagram asked me if I'd like to make some crocheted bunting pennants for a Lyme Disease Awareness yarn bombing project.

As I have a complicated medical history with ME and Chronic Lyme disease and a crochet hook I was only to happy to help, my health has been very poor but I manged to make five pennants one a week.

In of course all shades of green, Lime Green,

I then had a play around with some variegated green yarn which I double stranded with some Green style craft special DK

and also the Lime Green yarn. Not realising I sent them off in the post to join with others pennants made in the UK, but that was just they start of there journey as my bunting pennants were winging there way all the way to America.

Now here's crafting Assistant Monty who was very keen on the Lime green yarn, and kept running off with it, can you believe it they are one year old now.

So sometime later they arrived in Newark  to join in with  @lymeyarnbombs  for Lyme disaese awareness month which is May. You can see more about the chairty here lots of lovely pics yarny goodness.

Then last week I received a surprise in the post a Tote bag as a thank you for taking part in the project.  I really hope it helps people to become tick aware as this illness is destroying lives, even here in the UK.

As for my Lyme disease story well it's ongoing, I've have severely relpased again and left the doctors last week with this little lot. six weeks worth of antibiotics, sadly it won't cure my Lyme disease but it's the best the NHS has to offer here in the UK, hopefully it will make my quality of life a bit better, for just a little while, once I get past the awful die off reaction that the Antibiotics will cause.

It's going to be a evening rougher few weeks here.

So please do  be Lyme Disease Aware when you're out and about in the countryside, parks or even you're back gardens these ticks are everywhere.

Three Things : 47/52

Hello...... I'm running a bit behind again so here are last weeks 'Three Things'

Number one:

My first happy thing for last week are these lovely coloured craft scissors, just looking at the colours alone makes me smile.  My lovely friend Lindy is downsizing her craft supplies ready to move house and she very kindly gave these to me. So a big thank you Lindy for the crafting scissors and also for very kindly running me to my B12 jabs each week.

Number two:

My second happy thing this weeks is not the blue sky although I do love the wonderful blue colour the skies are in Springtime. No it's the sunshine, yes lovely  lovely sunshine or more the fact that I'm allowed out in it again. I spend most of my life in the shade due to the treatment for my Lyme/ME making me allergic to the sun.

So one of the plus sides of starting antiviral theraphy is that I had to stop my antibiotics for a while, yippee for I so miss being able to sit in the sun. Plus it's a nightmare if you have to go in the car while allergic to sunlight, all bundled up with a scarf over my head especially in summer very hot and bothersome

Sadly there seems to be some downsides to the antivirals, mostly digestive, I've had lots of nausea, but fingers crossed today I've been a bit better so hopefully I'm getting used to them.

Number three:

My third happy thing this weeks is spending a little time on Friday practise yarn bombing the garden. 'P's' getting well used to it by now with the blog and didn't bat a eye as I went past with my camera and bag of yarny goodness, instead just saying 'she's off to hang things in the trees again and take photo's'.

Yarn bombing just made me smilie happy, I'll show you some more pics another day. Well I just had to practise to see what everything would look like before posting it off to the Woollen Woods.

The only thing I forgot was the gardener was coming to mow the lawns for the first time this year, opps but thankfully I was all finished before then as I'm not quite sure what he would have made of it.

Well that's all the happy for now
I'm still working my way through Beutrix Potters Treasures tales

Radio Roses

Hello.......... A couple of weeks ago our local BBC radio station had yarn bombing as one of the phone in subjects on it's morning show.  I was skippy happy to hear they are planning to Yarn Bomb the station building.

They were asking for people that wanted to help to get in contact.

So I emailed them saying I'd love to help, I'd made lots of crocheted flowers for my seasonal wreaths and that I was already making some flowers and things for a project in Cumbria so I thought it would be good to make something for somewhere local.  As a after thought I said to 'P' 'they won't read that out on the show will they?' 'No' was the reply.

Wrong, my five seconds of fame followed shortly when they read out my email and even asked to put this picture of my wreaths

up on Radio Kents Facebook page eek.

'blushes'

luckily 'P' was out at the shops, by the time they read it out on air otherwise I never would have lived it down, I was still teased for the next few days as apparently it's very funny.

Any road mortification over !

I set about making some Roses, I just love how these springy spirals become a Rose

The larger Blooms are made using the Rose pattern from 'Cute and Easy Crochet with Flowers' by Nikki Trent and the smaller ones are good old Attic 24's May Roses

I also made some blossoms and added some pretty beads all made from yarn from my stash.

The theme for the yarn bombing is hearts and flowers so I made a few extra hearts last week when I made my Valentines Garland

Here they all are bright and cheerful and ready to go off in the post.

I'm so looking forward to seeing the photo's of the yarn bombing at the BBC.

Sometimes life just makes you smile. So onwards and upwards to the next project, making some nature themed crochet for the Woollen Woods.

As for reading I'm still enjoying Earthly Joys by Philippa Gregory, part of the book is set in Canterbury so not far from my little corner of the world, so it's interesting reading a book set in the 1600's, where the son attends a school still exsists today, in fact my neighbour used to teach there.
