Alice in Water colours

Hello, I've had a bit of a week of feeling blah in exhausted relapse mode after my holiday. So I apologise if some of my last few posts have lacked sparkle, I'm finding it a bit hard to muster up any at the moment.

So today I thought I share with you how I'm getting on with the second part of my 'Alice In Wonderland project', for my local craft club.   You can read all about the Mad Hatter Hat I've made already 'here' .Over the last week I managed to paint a few more post cards, which eventually I'm going to turn in to Alice playing cards.

I had a few afternoons last week  painting out in the garden, working on some post cards, in the shade of the parasol, (truth be told I really needed to get some finished, for the past month now at craft club I've had nothing to show) Even though I was feeling pretty rotten I just had to get on with them but that's the good thing about water colour and working on postcard size, you can do a little bit then go and have a rest, perfect for pacing.

First of all I did a pencil sketch for each card, I wanted to do my own version of the Alice characters and not just copy the original illustrations.  After a friend mention it I move the knot on the tree from under the Cheshire Cats tails and it was looking a little suspicious eek, No wonder he's smiling !!!!

I also did a card to represent the tiny door and key to Wonderland

The Rabbit and his pocket watch

and a bottle and cake to represent 'Eat me, Drink Me' from the book.

I then painted them in a simple water colour washes and added some ink with my Stablio fine liner pens

and Tah Dah  they were complete

The White Rabbit

Key

and Cheshire Cat. (see I moved the knot !)

I love painting I just wish I was better at art, I find it soooo relaxing, although I not certain if they are good enough to go on exhibition in the local library.  It must be a wonderful job to be a illustrator of children's books.

So that's four more completed and ready to add to the two I finished a few weeks ago.

Hopefully by my next post I'll be feeling a bit better again and less like 'the ME steam roller' ran me over.

Happy Crafting

Clare xx

  2. You did beautifully and I can definitely say that it's good enough for a children's book. Maybe you can write one and do a few illustrations and see what happens. Once the colors were in on the art you did they looked really good. Great work!
