Stitching Sundays : 04

Hello... it's Stitching Sunday again and I'm linking up with Chrissie's stitch along, but before we get to the stitching I just couldn't resist posting this pic of last nights sunset, it was so beautiful.

Any road on with the stitching...........

So a little catch up, last week I got as far as stitching the tree's branches and trunk in a split stitch, so this week been all about lovely pink blossom, that has made me skippy happy, all the lovely pink flosses to play with.

Blossom blossom blossom how I love you, it's been so much fun, I've been loosely following the image from my Doodle stitching book, but I've also deviated a bit just doodling away free style, the little blossom flower's on my tree.  Just letting things happen, letting my creativity loose, I think that's what I'm loving the best, the freedom, to embroider exactly what comes to mind for each flower on my tree.

Being new to embroidery I have been learning a few things about the coloured flosses as, I've stitched this week.

Last week I selected five sets of pink threads that I thought would be perfect for my cherry blossom, but I've found that I had to introduce some darker pinks into the mix, as the blossoms were not as vibrant as I would have liked.

I not sure if it's because the Flosses look brighter in the skeins or that the colour of the linen I'm using some how makes them appear paler than they are.

Thankfully I found just the colours I needed amongst the set of 50 mixed skeins I'd ordered as a start kit. So I was soon away again incorporating seven separate colours into my blossom tree.I think the darker colours have really help to lift the colour a bit. What do you think?

I took my embroidery to craft club on Wednesday where I completed the first section of blossom. I also attempted a few French knots, but I've yet to fully master it, so for now I'm using satin stitch back stitch, running stitch and star stitch on my tree and a few random Clare invented stitches too.

I've really not been feeling too well, but I did manage to do a little stitching on Saturday and  of course some today on stitching Sunday. So this is where I'm up to so far. (The last pictures really not the best as the light seems to fade so fast these day, but gives a idea of where I've got to) I know it's not the neatest embroidery ever, but I'm learning and having fun.

Why not pop over to Chrissie's Crafts and see what everyone else has been up too.

Happy Crafting

Clare xx

  1. Clare, I love your tree! The pinks are just singing from the branches! The colours will indeed look very different when used on natural-coloured linen, I've found that with all threads when I'm working on anything other than white. But you have sorted that out marvellously! I love the various stitches and designs, too! Thanks for sharing, Chrissie x

  3. Kudos to you for trying embrodiery. I've only done it once or twice long ago. I know what you mean about fading light. It makes it hard to do crafts. I've ordered a craft lamp and hope it makes a difference to my lifting situation. Enjoy your stitching.

  4. Beautiful sunset Clare, and beautiful stitching - love your pinks and think they are 'spot on'. It's lovely too that you are allowing things to 'happen' in your stitching!

  8. Hi, your stitching.is great, and who's to say if a stitch is made up or not. Give it a fancy name and no one will be any the wiser. It looks great fun.
