7th December- Gothic Crocheted Star

Hello......... So we're a week into December already eek.  Today Star is another from  Elizzza wonderful Advent Calenders, this ones from last year.  I'll tell you now that I fell a little bit in love with this one and couldn't wait to have a go...........

but this Gothic star turned into a bit of a Gothic horror  for me, I got into a bit of pickle with it, not quite sure how I went wrong, but I got there in the end, sorry not too many pics today and I was too busy trying to figure out the star and forgot to take them.

I used Rowan Cotton Glace to make the star and a 3mm hook, I also left long tails ends so I could sew them up through to one of the points for a hanging string.

As always I've popped the video link above, in case you too, need a Gothic star in your life

6th December -Isadora star

Hello....... Welcome back, for a little bit more festive fun,

Today it's all about stars, another one from the knitaholics blog

Now this one took me a little bit longer, but  it makes up to be about the size of a coaster, so I think these would make a perfect Christmas gift, hooked up into sets of 4 or 6.

I used DMC Petra and a 3mm hook,

and before long, I had a lovely star

So much so I just had to make another one.

As you can see they are much larger than the snowflakes, so perfect for a little festive mat or coaster or you could just hang them on the tree.

Link to Elizza's wonderful tutorial above

Back tomorrow with another star I think....

5th December : Lacey snowflakes

Hello....... Day five of the advent calender and I'm ready for a bit of snow.

For these little snowflakes and some of the other advent makes, I've treated myself to some lovely cottons, now fine cottons are not something I have really worked with before but, wow I loved them.

These pretty snowflakes are so easy to make and

are all done and dusted in just three rounds.

So a perfect quick make for this time of year,

Aren't they pretty, I think I'm going to make some more to decorate my Christmas cards, so they can be detached and hung on the tree, a card and gift rolled into one.

Ta-Dah

They do need a little blocking though.

I loved this little pattern so much that I soon had a little flurry on my hands which was perfect as I was able to send some off to the Home-Start Snowflake appeal.

Experimenting with different cottons, lace weight yarns and hooks size really changed how the snowflakes turned out just perfect, as no two snowflakes are ever the same.

As always the link to the you tube tutorial is here, why not pop over and check it out.

Have a lovely weekend.

4th December -Crocheted Star 'Barbara'

Hello......... and welcome to day four of the advent calender, today I'm going to share with you this pretty little star called 'Barbara'  which I've made with my lovely Auntie Barbara in mind, I've picked a pretty lilac cotton for this make, as it reminds me of my Auntie B who is herself in fact a fabulous knitter and stitcher.

The pattern again comes from the knitaholics blog from a advent calender from 2011, I'm using dmc cotton petra and a 3mm hook

It's a quick make which is perfect for this time of year.

Which comes together in just a few rounds.  Isn't it pretty, Elizzza explains in the video clip, how in Austria they cut a branch on this day and bring it inside with the hope it will have blossom on by Christmas, such a lovely custom and I guess why in some way the star also looks like a Flower

Here's the tutorial if you want to have a go yourself, I'd love it if you joined in with me and this yarny festive fun, perhaps you could share pics of your makes on the blogs facebook page 'here'

3rd December - Baroque Star

Hello.... welcome to day three, of this festive bit of yarny fun

So this is going to be the first of many festive stars in the Advent Calender
and for today's star I'm using Stylecraft special DK in my absolute favourite colour sherbet, do you have a favourite colour in the stylecraft range ?

As always you'll find the knitaholics tutorial at the bottom of this post.

Now probably because of the yarn I used, this pretty star did need a bit of  blocking, for which I used the pin and waft steam iron technique.

Oh it's so pretty, I just couldn't resist adding a pearl to the centre

and then well I just got carried away with the decorating and glued some pretty half pearls (the ones you use for card making) to each point of the star.

Ta-Dah

A big thank you  goes to Elizzza for all the lovely tutorials that she has kindly shared on you tube, what a talented lady, go on you know you want to make one too.

2nd December -Tiny crocheted owl

Hello........... Behind the door of today's advent calender you'll find the cutest little owlie you ever did see.  These tweeny tiny owls are sooooo adorable, that I just couldn't wait to make one.

I'm using up some of left over yarn from my ice cream cushion for this make, and a 4mm hook

Following  along with the fab tutorial, in no time at all I had the makings of a cute little owl.

All I needed was some sparkly eyes

and some tuffty ears, looping through the yarn ends to make them

Once I had my little owl hooked up  it was time for the fun part adding some decoration and at this point I deviated a little bit from the tutorial...

By sewing on some cute little pom pom eyes and a pearly pink button beak.
Ta-Dah
Aww isn't she cute.

Here's Elizzza'a wonderful tutorial, you really should have a go at making some of these cute little owls, it's such a hoot!!

1st December- crocheted star (Poinsettia)

Hello.......... So the big day has finally arrived, I've been working on and planning this advent calender since September so I'm sooo excited that December is finally here.

So here's how it's going to work each day I'm going to be sharing some yarny goodness and making a little something Christmassy, first up I want to say these are not my designs, they are just makes, I have found and loved, (mostly from youtube) most importantly things that are quick to make, as no one has a lots of spare time during this busy season, but it is nice to sit down with your hook and have a little breather some ME time.

So my first make is this lovely little table mat, which was the inspiration for this whole thing, as when I was looking for something to make my Mum as part of her birthday present, I came across this tutorial and with it I discovered the wonderful world of crocheted advent calenders.

Eliazza over at knitaholics  I discovered has been publishing advent calenders for the last few years, at first I was skippy happy to discover this and was going to just follow one of them, but then unfortunately but very understandably  I discovered not all the tutorials have a English version.

Eliazzza has put so much work and love into these tutorial, that I just wanted to have a go at some, so I decided I would do a pick and mix version of the calender, with the tutorials she has made in English, I really hope she doesn't mind me doing this as they are truly wonderful.

So each day I'll be sharing one of the video tutorials here and showing you what I made, along the way there will all be also other tutorial from different  youtube crafters.

So onto the first make, as you can see it hook up well, in my Twinkle yarn, why blue I here you ask, as it's called poinsettia, well it was for my mum and her Christmas decorations are blues silver whites and teals, so I think this sparkly yarn will be the perfect fit.

It did need a little bit of blocking though, so I pinned it then wafted the steam iron over the top

and Ta-Dah

make number one was complete, I'm really looking forward to having a whole load of new decorations come the end of the month, it would be lovely if you wanted to join in with this too.

Here's the link to the video tutorial for this first make
See you tomorrow
