14th December - crocheted snowflake

Hello......... Another day another snowflake, here's the one for day 14

This ones a stash buster as I used up some of the left over yarn from my icecream cushion

using a 3.50 mm hook,  and another of Elizza's wonderful tutorials

Soon my snowflake was almost complete, but

I just couldn't resist blinging it up a bit with some beads for added sparkle.

Then I wondered, what a metallic one would turn out like, I love the metallic silver of this anchor yarn but it's not the easiest to work with

as it tends to roll in on itself but I decided to give it a go.

and after some much needed blocking

Here's how it turned out,
It was also one of the snowflakes I sent off for the Home-start snowflake appeal.

here they are together and by the looks of it before the blocking happened.

As always the you youtube beclip is here.

13th December Elosia

Hello........... Welcome to day 13, the month sure is flying by, today's bit of yarny goodness, is this very pretty star.

Using DMC cotton in a pretty duck egg with a 3mm hook, I set to work on this little beauty

which hooked up in just four rounds,

Now I have to confess a certain amount of frogging took place on the final round but I got there in the end, I think I just need to do a bit of blocking before I add the final pic.

As always here's the link to Elizza, wonderful tutorial.

12th December Attic24 snowflakes

Hello........ Day 12 and it's time for some Attic24 festive magic.

I just love Lucy's crocheted snowflake pattern, in fact they were one of the first things I ever made when I learnt to crochet. Over the years I've used this pattern so many times, so I just had to add them to the Advent Calender.

I hooked them up using Petra DMC in pretty pastels  posting some off to the Homestart Charity snowflake appeal.

they do need some steam iron blocking, which is well worth doing.

Ta-Dah

Here's how they turned out in the fine cotton.

As I mentioned I do love these snowflakes, here they are in a make from 2014

Where I made this garland for a blog swap out of DK twinkle yarn for added sparkle, you can read all about it 'here'

11th December -crocheted Star Adelheid

Hello........... Here's another pretty star for day 11 of the advent calender

It's another of Elizza's fabulous you tube tutorials, you'll find the clip at the bottom of this post.

Using DMC Cotton in a pastel pink I quickly made up the pretty puff stitch flower for this star, using a 3mm hook

Aww it's just so pretty

and in just a few rounds I was onto the picot edging

I loved this star so much that I made another one in Ice blue.

Once I was finished I stitched the ends through to one of the points to make a hanging loop,

Ta-Dah

Once I get a few more of these advent items made up I'm going to do a group blocking session, so I'll post another pic once that's done.

For now here's the link to the clip

10th December- Do you want to build a snowman !!

Hello...... Now when I came across this little guy on Youtube I just couldn't resist including him in the advent calender.

Despite the fact I've not really done a lot of origami crochet before, but by following the tutorial it wasn't long before I had what looked like the beginnings of a snow man

and once he was stuffed  I was skippy happy with how he turned out.

He just needed a little scarf and hat to keep him warm, or should that be cold!! after all that we don't want him melting.

As you can see, I used lots of sparkly yarn for this make, which I pinched from my cosy blanket stash

Now at this point I deviated from the tutorial as I thought my snowman was more of beanie hat kind of a guy, so I made him up a hat with a cute little pom pom stitched on the top.

I then crocheted him a little carrot nose as I didn't have any puffy paint as recommend  in the clip, both the carrot and hat were stitched into place and tail ends were brought down and out through the bottom of my snowman,  to hold them securely in place.

I finished the little fellow off with some ice blue gems for his smile and buttons and then glues on some googly eyes.

Here's the youtube link, if you find you need a little snowman in you're life too.

9th December - Baby Flower heart

Hello....... Welcome to day nine of the advent calender, now today's make didn't go exactly to plan, as I think basically I just used the wrong type of yarn, so if I have the time before the advent calender goes live, I'm going to give this one another try, but for now here it is.

Using lace weight cottons, I first made the little puffy flower (tutorial below)

Then it was onto the second you tube clip to made the decoration itself. as you can see my heart turned out a little sad and wonky with loose stitches.

So instead of  making up the second one, I decided I would make the best of what I had, by adding a pretty bead to the hanging fringe.

Ta-Dah
Not exactly as planned and I have to say I'm a little bit disappointed as I was looking forward to this one, but I guess you win some you lose some. Oh well.

See how pretty it should have been.  Time has caught up with me and I didn't manage a second attempt on this one, I have however made a star version for later on in the calendar using DK and it turned out lovely, so DK yarn is my top tip for this one.
