Hello ......... I hope you are all keeping warm, yesterday we had our first frost of the season here at the Summerhouse, but I don't mind as it was followed by the most gorgeous blue sky day, much better than all the damp November grey we've had lately.
Any road today is going to be all about Roses, sadly they are finished out in the garden for now, but over the last few months I've been crocheting away making things for my 'Wintertime Wreath'.
Yes I know it's winter, but I just had to include some Roses, as what is more gorgeous than a Winter Rose and believe it or not last year we did in fact have a Winter Rose blooming at the Summerhouse. I took the above picture on the 5th December, natures so resilient so who knows maybe just maybe it'll happen again this year too.
At the weekend I decided I would try out a new Rose pattern. This one is from Nicki Tench's book 'Cute and Easy Crochet with Flowers.' I found the pattern easy to follow as it was similar to a Rose pattern I had made from her previous 'Cute and Easy Crochet book.' So I set to work hook in hand, working the two rows needed to make this rose.
I made my Rose from most gorgeous 'artesano' superfine alpaca DK, it really is divine so soft, to tell you the truth I bought this yarn purely for the colour as I wanted a gorgeous icy blue hue for my wreath, but it's a dream to work with so soft and snugly, I keep dreaming of hand warmers made from this yarn, oh no, not another project to add to the growing list!!!!
Anyway I digress, here it is Ta-dah my icy winter rose.
When I made my Spring time wreath earlier in the year as well as a 'Cute and Easy' crochet pattern I also used Lucy's wonderful Attic 24 May Roses pattern. So I've been busily making some of these cute little Roses for my wintertime wreath too.
As you can see they are much smaller that my new Icy winter rose, but they fit perfectly onto the wreath, I still need to play around with the layout ( that's the fun bit!!! yippee) but I'm sure I'll find all these 'Winter Roses' a place on the wreath.
It's so much fun to be wreath making again.
and Nicoles KCCO so why not check out what everyone else has been up to.
As for reading I'm just about to start the above book it was a magazine freebie, and it's not something I'd usually read but I figure why not, Christmas is on the way. It might take me a while with my pacing program as I'm only allow to read for 10 minutes a day, so I might have it read by Christmas.
Linking up with Ginny's Yarn along
Happy Crafting

Oooo, what beautiful roses! Thank you for sharing the one from the Nicki Trench book, I've not yet tried it but it is definitely on my list now! I love the shape of it, and it will look stunning on your wreath no doubt! Chrissie x

DeleteI love these roses, your wreath is going to be so pretty. I would enjoy making one of these wreaths but I can't decide where in my house I would want to hang it...I think it's silly that I'm letting this stop me.
ReplyDeleteI say go for it, I'm sure you find a place, even if it's just something lovely to look at above your craft table, I'm sure it would be pride of place in your home. xx
DeleteLoving those pretty roses Claire. I did some of them when I did Niki's teacosy, they are so easy to do and they look so pretty. There is always space for roses on a Christmas wreath. In South Africa we have Christmas Roses and they are so so beautiful. xoxo

ReplyDeleteGorgeous winter roses Clare! I love them! And what could be more seasonal than a Christmas rose? I am never sure quite what species those lovely pale Christmas roses are - I don't know that they are actually related to the rose family but I love them and your hooky ones remind me of them beautifully. Really looking forward to seeing the finished wreath! E x
