It's been a bit Roses galore over the last few weeks here at the Summerhouse, as I've been making Roses for my Spring time wreath. I know technically they are not a Spring flower, but I just couldn't resist adding some to my wreath. I'm slowly getting there with the wreath but I pretty certain now that it will be a Easter Ta-dah moment for this project as the equinox is less than a week away now and I still have quite a lot to get done, my left wrist is getting very creaky and starting to complain about too much knitting.
There are so many different patterns for crocheted Roses out there, it was hard to know where to start. So I decided first I would make the Roses from the book 'Cute and Easy Crochet' by Nicki Trench, as it's the first crochet book I bought, when I started to learn.
My first attempt was way back in January, before I even contemplated starting this blog. I made this Rose using Stylecrafts DK special in 'Pale Rose'.
Last week when I was ill in bed, I went into Rose making mode, maybe that's a new symptom for a cold!! anyway the Rose on the left of this shot is also made using a pattern from the above mentioned book.
I then went on to make these two Roses using a tutorial created by Lucy at the fab Attic 24 which you can find 'here' again I made these roses using Sylecraft Special DK, in Fondant and Clematis.
The leaf pattern is also on this tutorial.
Just before I go, look who popped by this morning, I opened the door to find this lovely Green woodpecker sitting on the lawn.
Not the best photo but I guess I was lucky that I had my camera to hand. The birds have been in frenzy feeding with the sudden cold weather we've been experiencing in the UK, over the weekend I was watching a gang of long tailed tits who were feeding on our birdie feeder, we have such a great variety of birds in our garden, perhaps I''ll tell you all about them another day.
Happy Crafting.

Beautiful crochet Clare and a great shot of the woodpecker. I love this time of year when the birds start chattering in the mornings and nesting. I saw a blue tit in my nest box this morning so am hoping she will use it for her babies.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by the Summerhouse Sara, I was very lucky to have camera in my hand when I opened the door, and saw the woodpecker. I hope you baby blue tits in you're nesting box. One time from the summerhouse I spied a mama blue tit who had her fledged babies lined up onto of the summerhouse waterbutt while she went off to find food for them so sweet, a really magical moment. x
DeleteYou are so lucky to have a green woodpecker in your garden... I have only ever seen a fleeting glimpse of one. We get long tail tits every so often and the other month they came right up to the house whilst I was stood outside and they were wonderful to see up close. My husband calls me Bill Oddie!
ReplyDeleteSounds lovely MeMeRose, we're very keen on feeding the birds here at the Summerhouse, they need all the help they can get, we have one of those bird feeding station quite near to the house which is great for bird watching. As well as a birdtable on the lawn and feeders in the hedges it's amazing how many different birds come and visit. I normally take part in the RSPB garden bird count but wasn't well enough to this year, but I have a good idea as to what birds are visiting the garden.
DeleteI have some nuts in my car for your birds Clare, hopefully they'll tempt some more birds to pose for your camera :) I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished wreath.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm sure they'll be very grateful for them, not sure where spring went too. xxx
