Hello.......... Early on Sunday morning while we were away, (well early for me at 8.30am) we set off to New Quay.
Driving across the Hills, of the Pembrokeshire national park, saying hello to the wandering sheep as we went, yes we were off on a adventure, and you could say I was bit excited.
We were not heading to New Quay for the beach, oh no we were headed
to the Pretty harbour for we had a boat to catch. For a long time I've wanted to see dolphins in the wild, it makes me so sad to think of them in captivity, so we had arranged to go out on a conservation boat to see if we could spot any.
Being the daughter of a sailor, the thought of going out on a little boat, didn't bother me at all, although some of the younger member of our party we a bit more perturbed, we managed to navigate the wheelchair along the harbour wall, and the captain very kindly moved the boat for us so it wasn't so far down for me to be helped aboard, then we were off.
Out to sea, looking back on pretty New Quay.
The weather was kind to us and stayed dry and relatively calm, and we all kept a good look out for the dolphins, I can tell you I did a fair bit of wishing from that boat.
We saw lots wildlife, birds and even a seals but sadly the dolphins were hiding from us.
Even the wheelchair came along for the ride, I do take it to the strangest places
Even though we didn't see any bottlenosed dolphins I wasn't too disappointed as it was great to be out on the water and lovely to know they were out there somewhere in the protected waters of Cardigan Bay which is Britain's first designated special area for Marine Conservation. I think it's so important to try and see them in the wild where they can be free.
Maybe I'll see some one day.
Clare xx
What a fab day out - I want to take my aunty and uncle on a boat trip and they are both in wheelchairs, so I feel heartened that it is indeed possible - thanks for sharing. x
ReplyDeleteWe found it fine when we booked it we told them about the wheelchair, I have ME so I am able to stand and walk very short distances, although my balance isn't so good which was a help, but they gave me lots of assistance getting on and off the boat.

What a lovely day out. It always amazes me how helpful people can be when you are in a wheelchair! Sorry you didn't get to see the dolphins but at least you now have an excuse to go again :-) xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab day out. I have always wanted to see dolphins in the wild. The closest we got was seeing their fins in the distance when we were on honeymoon in Mauritius but they kept well away from the boat. Hopefully they'll be a bit friendlier next time xxx

ReplyDeleteWhat a great adventure, heartening to know that it is possible with a wheelchair. Such a shame that no dolphins were spotted, maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you do get to see them someday! Sounds as though it was a great day out in any case and how great that the boat people were so accommodating with your wheelchair, that is good to see! xx
