Angel Wings Shawl

Hello........... I hope you all had a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas.  Over the holidays I decided to join in with Susan Pinner's Christmas CAL I just couldn't resist having a go at making a Angel Wings Shawl

I had the perfect yarn for it in my stash, you see angel wings make me think of pastels and sparkles light and ethereal,  so to capture just that I'm using Rico Creative Reflections in Pastel.

Oh the joy of seeing the wonderful colours change and sparkle

as the shawl develops, I'm using a 3.5mm hook so it's coming up smaller than the pattern, so I think I may well have to add in a repeat of some of the rounds

but I don't mind that so much, as I'm so in love with this make, beside as with most crochet along's with my limited energy I don't stand a chance of keeping up with everyone else.

So I'm going along at my own pace enjoying every minute of it

and who can blame me just look at those pretty colours.

I'm sure the angels will love it too.

Twinkle little Star trinket box

Hello............ A few weeks ago, some friends and I went for another fun afternoon of ceramics painting.

This was our second visit to the Ceramics Cafe, on the first visit I painted the above yarn bowl, which you can read more about it.here

So the big question was what to paint this time, I've been doing lots of meditation lately and I asked the question what should I paint ? and this was image I received in my minds eye, not really sure what it is???  maybe a planet, but I loved the gentles colours and tones.

When we got to the cafe I fell in love with this little star trinket box and set about painting my image onto it, stars, planets there seemed to be a bit of a theme.

I then had to choose how to decorate the inside of my little star and opted for some yellow to tie it all together. Then the patient bit comes where you have to wait a few days for the ceramics to be glazed and fired, wondering how thing are going to turn out ???????

Here it is.........

and here's a little peak inside the star.

Holly Headband

Hello.......... Today's post is a bit of festive fun, you see I needed a Christmas hat for a get together and I decided a handmade yarny festive headband/fascinator would be just the thing.

I had everything I needed here already, so it was really just a assembly job, I already had a red glittery headband, you know me and sparkle !! That was just waiting to be blinged

I then may have pinched  re purposed the Holly leaves from my wintertime wreath, so I'm going to have to make a couple more before the solstice.  The Holly leaves are made using Lucy over at Attic24 Jolly Holly pattern.

To make up the headband all I did was remove the little red pompom berries from each leaf, before attaching the leaves to the headband, I used glue dots for this before stitching the berries in place.

I also added a few stitches to each leaf to secure it to the band so it hopefully stays in place.

Scary selfie time

I think it turned out rather well, its hard to tell from the pic but the Holly leaves were made using a green Sparkly yarn.  I should also say that the original idea for the headband came from last week Womens Weekly here in the UK, although I've not used there published pattern for my make.

So it begins.........

Hello........... So we've made it round to December again and things are starting to get a little bit festive here at the Summerhouse.

I am now the proud owner of a Christmas jumper

and the craft clubs handmade tree went up in the library this week.

As did the Gingerbread garland, so cute the kids and adults did a great job.

all things festive are starting to happen

Even the shrubs in the garden are joining in

This morning I opened the door on my tiny greetings card advent calender to discover a festive dinosaur !!! behind the first door.

The candle is ready to be lit tonight,

and the sweetie one is ready too, this year I'm the mistletoe's and 'P' is Stars, so I'll just have to wait until tomorrow, to see what's in the little fabric bag.

So far December is treating us kindly here at the Summer house, I know this can be a tough time of year for some and in the past we have had some sad Christmases here but hopefully this year we're going to be rediscovering our Christmas joy.

Bower Bird

Hello.......... On Sunday afternoon the rain was lashing down and the wind was starting to blow a hoolie as storm Angus barrelled through our little corner of the world.

So it was the perfect time to settle down under a blanket with yarn, hook and a cuppa and get my Hygge on

and what could be more perfect than this little Bower bird kit for that, it came with a issue of Simply Crochet magazine, probably around this time last year.  The kit contained everything you needed to make the birdie, other than a hook.

The pattern is one of Lucy's from over at Attic24 and you can find the tutorial for this make here if you'd like to make one too.

In no time at all I was making my birdie

Which is another make to go on the craft clubs handmade tree in the local library.

Now the kit came with a written pattern and at first I was following along well, but for the trickier bits of making the bird I hopped over to Attic 24 and used the photo tutorial which is great, for pattern phobics like me.

Then it was birdie assembly time, I got a bit carried away at this point and forgot to take any pics. Opps  any road.......... (just imagine lots of sewing and stuffing going on.)

I did add a little decoration to my bird using you guessed it some sparkle yarn.

I added some to the wings too instead of the buttons that came in the kit.

One Scandi style Christmas birdie

Who is spending some time hanging out with the twinkle lights until it's time to go to the library and nest in the Christmas tree.

This week I've also hooked up this red sparkly bauble for the tree, with hopefully more to come energy permitting.

This and That

Hello........... I thought I'd pop my head out and give you all a little wave from the summerhouse, I'm still struggling with my energy levels so not a whole lot has been going on around here.

Little bits and bobs of crafting, nothing really worthy of it's own post so I thought I'd do a crafty this and that post instead

Life has been filled lately with rainbow pompoms, I was thinking about decorations for the local libraries handmade tree and I wondered what a pompom made from rainbow wool would be like so I just had to find out and the answer is super cute.  I'm a little bit in love with there rainbow goodness ........

I think they make the perfect handmade alternative to baubles, what do you think?

Some not so good news with my hand warmers I've had to frog the second one again, silly brain fog is really effecting my concentration so annoying as I made the first without a problem hey ho I'll get there.

In other pompom news I've also made this mini snowball garland threading mini pompoms onto twine, another make for the handmade tree, I'm hoping this garland will work as a alternative to tinsel.

In fact I may well make one for my blossom tree, I think it will look like a lovely wintry flurry of snow around my little tree.

I also had fun making this fellow, each member of the craft club has been given one to decorate for a gingerbread bunting, bless him look how boss eyed he is in this pic.

I've been doing a bit of beading too.....

Oh and last but not least I managed to take a pic of one of the summerhouse's garden visitors, I was so pleased to discover that we have two visiting squirrels this year and so far they are behaving themselves by eating the nuts from the little dish and not the feeders.

Well that's about it
